'I was confident of getting a lead role' - Aarti Singh

Aarti Singh who was last seen in Grihasti as one of the sisters is finally back on television, with a lead role in Shristi Arya's COLORS show Thoda Hai Bas Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai.

Here is Aarti Singh in conversation about her new role, the reaction of her family members and much more..

Tell us about your character?
I play the bahu Mugdha, she loves her family a lot. She is shown to be the sacrificing lady, and can do anything for her family, to keep them united.

How did you bag this role?
I gave three auditions after which I got a call. Goldie Behl was there and the only tension they had was whether I would be able to manage the lingo of Marathi, as I did not know the language. I could see the reaction on their faces when I was reading the Marathi lines. I had a difficulty in adjusting for the first 3-4 days, but my co-actors and the production team helped me and motivated me a lot.

So how much of a homework did you do for this show?
I didn't do any homework as such. All my family members speak Marathi very well, it's only me who can't speak. I took help from all of them, who conversed with me only in Marathi from then.

How are Mugdha and Aarti different?
Both of them are not much different. Aarti is a very emotional person just like Mugdha is. I feel Aarti cannot sacrifice as much as Mugdha does, but the situations they come from are different. For both, family matters a lot.

You were last seen in Grihasti, and after that you are coming back after a long break?
When I was doing Grihasti I had put on lots of weight. I worked on it and had a regimented routine when it came to diet and exercise. I gave about 40-50 auditions in one year. I got lots of offers for a parallel lead but I wanted to play the main lead, and was confident that it would come to me one day (smiles).

You are an Urban girl, how difficult is it to wear saree whole day while shooting?
The only problem is that I feel very hot, other wise everything is fine. I am a very comfortable and adjustable person, I don't have any problem. I love to wear salwar kameez, but sarees is not a problem at all for me.

Your whole family is into in this industry, what kind of relationship you share with them?
We share a nice relationship, everybody in the family is happy. When Govindaji saw my promo, he was very happy because I was extremely tense regarding my work. He was very happy to see my saree, my look and he got emotional.

What about Ragini Khanna?
Yes she is also happy. People say there is a competition because her show is also at 7.30PM. But it's not true, her show audience is different and our show audience is different.

And what about Krushna Abhishek?
Krushna is my elder brother, my best friend and my father. I have got a three in one relationship with him. He is very happy and when yesterday he saw my photo he called me up and he is so happy. The only advice he gives me now is that 'Moti Mat hona ab'.

As you say you share a tremendous relationship with all in your family. What kind of relation do you share with Kashmera?
Kashmera and I gel very well; she is a very straight forward person. If she doesn't like a person she will tell him on the face. She is not at all diplomatic. Yes initially there were lot of differences between me and Kashmera, but my bhai loves her a lot and they are happy together. My brother's happiness is important for me.

Are you seeing someone?
No and if I see someone, I won't declare unless I am getting married to that guy. I belong to a family where I have to keep my dignity.

You belong to a family where comedy is core, will you like to try this genre?
I am scared of comedy. Chi Chi Mama was excellent and Krushna followed him, and now if I do it they will definitely say that I am bad in comedy. I am scared of this but definitely I would love to try it once. I would love to try one episode of Comedy Circus or any comedy show on COLORS.

'It was my choice to quit the show'- Rati Pandey

The sweet, cute, chirpy character of Indian television and Miley Jab Hum Tum fame of Star One, Nupur speaks to her fans being herself, expressing her 2 years journey on the show, the remorse on her exit and much more exclusively with us...

How has been your journey in MJHT ?
The entire journey has been awesome. The experience that I have gained from this show has been outstanding. The character of Nupur was like a dream role for me because it was more of like me. The role was very entertaining. Though I was a bit apprehensive about the role my producer incited a lot of confidence in me.

How much would you miss the sets of MJHT?
Definitely miss the sets but not that much because I haven't left the sets in anger instead I have moved ahead gaining lot of knowledge and I'm still a learner so I would miss very sweet memories of the show but don't wish to get carried away in emotions.

How much can you relate to the lively, chirpy character of Nupur?
Not much because Nupur as a character was very confident, bubbly where her phrases weren't taken seriously so I'm very thankful to the creative's that they gave me such scenes where I could prove the strength in my character through different transitions and shades at regular intervals.
So I think Rati Pandey as a person is also equally confident as Nupur.

How much would you miss your on screen partner Mayank aka Arjun Bijlani?
As I said I won't miss any one that much because all memories are cherished. It's like I have done my job and now I'm all calm and relaxed.
So I would like to convey this to my fans too don't be upset just be practical and understand that Nupur's character had just that much to serve and it was also what the story demanded.
Even though we actors were told that none of the characters would die but before shooting the accident scene I was informed that my character will die. It was equally shocking news for me too but I was anyways planning to leave the show and it would have been more shocking and heart throbbing news if I would have walked out. But it was totally creative's as well as my decision and I got a very good opportunity to walk off. I found it to be the safest time to go so I approached my creative's and said if one character has to die let that be me.

But why in first place you wanted to leave the no.1 show on television?
I would say that I only think about myself so if I think that I had that caliber, that potential and I'm not getting an opportunity to showcase it then better quit. For me everything had been extracted from Nupur's character and how much could it be exaggerated.
I tried interacting with the creative's to inform them that I was a bit uncomfortable enacting certain tracks and I feel they have taken the right decision. And I feel this is the best turning point till now.

But along with you the other three characters are also long going so why just you very evicted?
I truly accept that but they wanted to kill the most popular character and by god's grace I have received immense popularity through this show and I'm thankful that all you people loved me so much. And I want all my fans to smile because it just the character that has died not Rati Pandey. And I bet you no one can replace Nupur and let her be as a legend.
And I'm confident that in my future projects I'll surely prove myself and beat the character of Nupur as well. I want you to remember Nupur but move on with Rati.

Are you satisfied with the present track of MJHT?
(laughs) Frankly after my last episode on the show I haven't followed it that much I have just watched 2-3 episode of season 2. I would just like to wish all the luck to the new comers and hope this show gets more successful.
I do not like the present track much but I'm happy that season 2 is happening because of Nupur. And from the audience point of view though the TRP's have gone up but I feel something missing in the track.

So do you look forward for a comeback?
I can't predict about that because the future is very uncertain.

Fan's have been very hurt by the creative's decision so what's your take on it?
I know the fans have been hurt it was shocking news. When I saw the episode and even while enacting it I had tears in my eyes. The last shot when I look towards Mayank in red saree it was a one take shot and my director and close friend Ravi's eyes also got wet. But I don't want my fans to get aggressive.

The channel had also conducted some voting poll so what's your take on it?
I have never believed in voting polls I have heard about it but haven't visited the website personally. Still I feel voting systems are all myth at the end of the day personal luck and hard work is what works.

Fans even feel that channel has manipulated the votes?
As per my knowledge they never plan anything as such so I can't comment anything on that but even if they have manipulated the voting system then I apologies on their behalf. But I don't think audience should have gone for this voting poll.
But I'm thankful to all my fans who voted for me and made me the most popular character but believe me even if Nupur would have been alive there would have been no thrill in season 2.

Fans feel that Nupur was the charm of the show and as you are not part of the show they won't view it anymore?
Firstly thanks for the compliment and secondly it's completely audience decision to watch it or not. But I would say give your good wishes to new comers also because I too was new comer once.

There was even a rumor that the creative scripted your exit because of your dictating terms on sets?
(smiles) if it's so then I would like to wish all the luck to the person who has spread this rumor as I feel he/she is more concerned about the show.

What's your take on your exit from the show?
I'm very happy and convinced and truly respect the creative's and channels decision. I didn't want to stretch Nupur's character further than this it has been 2 years though it was a pleasure I feel it was high time. And I feel it is for the betterment of myself too.

We had a word with your co-actors they too are quite upset with your exit so what's the message for them?
I have gone through 'n' number of mails and after going through all of them I feel I have the craziest fan and I have even received abusive mails so it's a request to my fans that please don't get so aggressive.
And for my co-stars I would say it's my personal and professional life and the decision has been taken under mutual understanding and there's no other reason apart from it.

Did you ever imagine that fans would show such kind of remorse for you?
I had never imagined that my fans would use such harsh language on my exit and my character is appreciated so much. And I get touched when my fans call my 'Dii' (sister) like I have just become an idol for them so please stand by me at this juncture too.

What was the reaction of your family members?
I have always treated them as my audience and never disclosed my storyline to them so they were equally shocked when they saw the last episode and my mother was very upset because no parent could even imagine their child's death but they believe in me and my talent and are all supportive.

So what's next now?
As of now I'm very chilled and relaxed and I'm going abroad with my family for a month's break and I don't wish to take any hasty decision. And I have been getting lots of offers from the time of MJHT but in future I would like to work in show which would be more individualistic and doesn't portray too many leads (smiles) so that I can portray my caliber again.

Message to fans.
I'm really touched and overwhelmed by the fact that audiences have appreciated Rati Pandey as much as they have appreciated my character of Nupur. You have understood me as a person so I feel I have got intelligent group of fans. So thank you so much for loving me so much and always stand by me because you are my strength.

'Enacting comedy is like playing a song' - Divyanka Tripathi

Divyanka Tripathi who started her journey in television with Zee TV's Banoo Main Teri Dulhann makes a hilarious comeback with SAB TV's Mrs. & Mr. Sharma Allahabad wale.

Here is Divyanka in an exclusive conversation with us as she shares all her thrilling instances, the hard efforts she has put in and her heartfelt contentment on playing Mrs. Rashmi Sharma..

How's the feeling of enacting the character of Mrs. Sharma?
Mrs. Sharma is definitely a difficult character for me to enact because I'm not all that hilarious and funny in my real life. You will not find me cracking jokes very often; so this element took a bit more time to sink in, but at the same time it's an enjoyable experience.

Also I was a bit apprehensive about the role because it was exactly opposite to my previous character. Earlier I used to return home completely exhausted after a whole day's shoot, but now with the comic atmosphere on sets I do not feel the work trauma anymore.

What kind of response have you been receiving just through the promotional advertisements of the serial?
The response has been very positive, though I haven't received many on a personal front. However, I have heard through my parents and native people in Bhopal that I am being liked. My father runs a medical store in Bhopal and the people who know me as his daughter share their responses with them.

Also my recent personal encounter was at Haji Ali where a woman recognized me to be a television actress. The best part was that she remembered the name of my previous serial, but identified me with my present role of Mrs. Sharma. So I was amazed to know that audience have already started relating to me as Mrs. Sharma. What more can an actor demand for!

How easy or difficult was it for you to do comedy after Banoo Main Teri Dulhann?
I won't regard it to be simple or difficult because once a person understands the concept and his/her character, things start falling in place. The one aspect which makes comedy stand out from the regular drama shows, is that the actor cannot cut and elaborate a dialogue depending on one's convenience when it comes to comedy. Performing comedy is like playing a song; if you miss a single tune the entire song gets spoilt. So in comedy detailing with timing plays a very important role.

How much more effort did you need to put towards this role?
Yes of course comedy demands for a constant high energy in every shot because I have to put in equal amount of humour in my supporting dialogues or punches too. It's an amazing experience as it gives me a feel of doing a stage performance.

How much homework did you do to enhance the character presentation?
Firstly I started observing the people of Allahabad. I did not have a big problem with dialect as I am good in Hindi; I had to just make few modifications here and there. And we also worked on the usage of some sweet words like Mr. Sharma is a very 'my dear person'. Then I started observing my local family women to inherit the innocence and simplicity in the character.

At the look test how did you feel about the entire attire of the character?
I loved it a lot and didn't have to work much myself as far as the look is concerned. I was very much happy with this long sleeved blouse, the big red flower in my hair and I any ways love to put Sindoor on my forehead. So the look was just perfect for me.

Apart from the character do you think such simple and innocent women do exist in real life in the present scenario?
Finding such women in Mumbai could be a bit difficult, but in local places like my native place Madhya Pradesh people are still that simple and innocent. It comes very easily to them. Basically the nature of a person depends on the surroundings in which he/she resides; so in Mumbai one has to be smart and fast in their work, so things differ.

As you said you too hail from a small town so have you met a character similar to Mrs. Sharma in real life?
No, I haven't met someone like her because people around me miss that fun element in them. They do carry certain nuances of Mrs. Sharma but I had nobody from whom I could take a leaf.

'I wish to write a script' - Hiten Tejwani

Hiten Tejwani who has managed to acquire a soft corner in the hearts of the viewers through his charming acting and bold personality discusses all of it and more with us….

Hiten firstly tell us about your comeback experience on television with Chhoti Bahu?
Firstly comeback for me would be when I return to the industry after 2-3years (smiles). In my case, I have resumed shoot after 2-3 months, so I won't regard it as comeback in real sense. But it feels great to start working again and I'm happy people have given me a very warm welcome.

In most of the serials you have been part of, you have always been given a mysterious entry, be it Kyunki, Kutumb, Palampur Express and now again Chhoti Bahu. What's your take on it?
(Laughs) I think this question should be asked to the creative teams of my serials. But as of now I would say that, may be they like to keep me as a mystery guy in their concepts. They like it that way (smiles).

You are been approached for many roles now. So are planning to take them up?
Well I haven't made up my mind on that yet. But I'll surely give more consideration to roles which would appeal to me. If roles offered are really nice then I may take it up.

Now that you are a proud father of twins, how does it feel to play romantic interest to girls in television shows?
Well it feels good. And at any point of time, I am a human who always feels young at heart if not in age. So as of now I could say that I'm being offered characters that suit my age.

Once actors start getting recognition they become very selective while taking up roles? What's your take on it?
I feel after working in the industry for quite sometime, one needs to get selective about the kind of roles he/she enacts. But my basic idea is that I try not to repeat same kind of roles.

Are you still associated with theater as in your earlier days?
Theater as of now has taken a back seat. Working for theater requires more time dedication and it involves lot of rehearsal sessions. So managing theaters at this time is a bit difficult.

What difference do you find when it comes to acting in theaters and in television?
The major plus point of working on television is that you are allowed cuts and re-takes whereas this is not possible in theater; it's just one shot over there. And the most striking feature is that in theaters, response from audience is also instant and quite motivating.

How do you think the industry has treated you so far?
In that case I would say I was very lucky, the industry treated me very well. They welcomed me with open arms.

So does this mean that you have had no struggle in the industry?
Every person who gets into the industry has to struggle in some way or the other. And when things come your way very easily you don't feel the real worth of your achievement. And achieving one's desire with hard work and struggle is a different fun all together.

In an interview you said you are great fan of Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, so one quality of both you admire a lot?
Firstly I'm nobody to point out any good or bad qualities about the two great artists. But as I idolize them, I truly admire SRK's energy and passion towards his work, and Bachchan Sir's punctuality at all times.

We also have information that you are fond of writing and one day you wish to write a novel and get it published. Is it true? If yes what would be the theme of it?
Yes it is very true, I love expressing my emotions through words. I have started it by writing blogs. But apart from writing a book I also have a wish of writing a script. But that requires solitude and 100% concentration, so at this point it's just a thought.

And talking about the theme I would like to write about things happening in and around a person which are fact based. Basically events that are stored in one's memory and when they read it they get a feel of 'hey I knew this'. In other words, something that people can relate to.

You also have a pet named 'Bekham', tell us something about it?
Yes, he's very naughty. He's our first baby we had got him when he was just 21 days. He has his personal tooth brush, a couple of t-shirts, in short a wardrobe of his own. He's a complete family member.

And now when we have our two angels in the house he's trying to figure out what these creatures are like. It's fun with him.

Tell us something about your sweet memories with your twins Katya and Neevan?
How do you manage spending time with them?

Well now work is not that easy after having spent four full months with them. So I miss them a lot when I'm at work. But whenever I come home and get a glimpse of their smiling faces, all the tiredness, fatigue just vanishes in no time. I love them a lot.

The dedicated fans of you and Gauri are eagerly waiting to see your on screen chemistry, so are there any chances of that happening?
As of now Gauri has taken a complete break. She wants to dedicate all her time to the two kids. But may be in future if she's offered any interesting roles or if she finds it quite tempting she might take up.

Message for your fans.
Thanks for all your love and support. I know that you people are not willing to see me performing a negative role. But please do understand that it's just a character and it's not the real me. And I'll always be the same for you.

'I believe in love based on compatibility' - Karan Grover

Karan Grover aka Kayjee has always been a popular face on television. He is now portraying the sweet and affable character that goes by his real name in Zee TV and Rajshri Productions' Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli.

Although he refuses to share details about his real life love- Kavita Kaushik , he speaks on love in general and of the kind that he believes in. He tells us how, even though he started late in life, he is so far happy with his acting career and intends to contribute more than acting to the entertainment industry.

Excerpts from our conversation…

Tell us about the things that make you love Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli…
First is the production house. Kavitaji is my favorite producer. Whenever she offers me anything, I don't even bother to go through the nuances, I say yes right away. Second is my part. I love my part. I get to wear the same trendy clothes that I started off with, even though my character has changed from a college boy to a lover boy and now almost Aabha's husband.

When you signed for your part, did you know it was going to be so big?
Yes, I knew it (smiles).

How does any character you take affect you?
Personally, whenever I do a part, I bring it back home I take it to my gym …everywhere. People say don't bring work home. But I do just that. I start roaming around in my character's look. I start picking up paraphernalia that he can use. I start weaving my own scripts in my head for my character. And when I discuss it with my director, he thinks I've gone mad (laughs). Every time I take a new character, I start behaving like a kid in a toy store but before he even enters it!

Do you relate to your character?
Yeah, I relate to Karan a lot. But then he's a far more emotional person. He's very impulsive and thinks about love and marriage.

Is there anything that bothers you about your character?
I don't think there's anything such as that. In fact, I love everything about Karan and I can learn a lot from him. He is patient. He is very romantic and believes in love at first sight whereas I so don't believe in love at first sight.

So what kind of love do you believe in?
I believe in love based on compatibility. For me love at first sight is all about passion and when it dies down something that works is what you have common between each other. I believe in being comfortable with the person you love, even in the worst of situations. You should be in your most awful clothes yet not feel awkward in front of that person. You should be able to brush your teeth with that person beside you…

How is Suhasi as a co-actor?
Suhasi is by far my favorite co-actor. We have a great time on the sets. We love to share our lunch. We both are big foodies so we keep ordering lots of junk food like burgers, pizzas, subway sandwiches etc. We do a lot of masti and other senseless things on the sets (laughs).

Does having a married co-star affect your on-screen chemistry?
Not at all! Suhasi has a very supportive family that trusts her completely and stands by her decision to work in the industry. I have met some of them. I have met her husband and he's a great guy. Her in-laws believe in the Barjatyas and so there's no negative vibes at all for me to be working with her.

At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to be an actor?
I realized quite late in my life that I wanted to be an actor. I'm a chemical engineer by qualification. I got a KT in my last year. I pursued event management and that's what gave me an entry into the field of entertainment. I've worked with experts like Umang Kumar.
When I saw what happened at these events I was like- 'I wanna be on stage, I wanna dress up, I wanna give interviews.' I realized I loved everything about an actor's life. So I started giving auditions and here I am.
You see, this is the reason why coming everyday to the sets does not feel mundane at all. I love coming to the sets every day. I love every moment of being in this profession.

Have you achieved whatever you had planned you would by this time?
I don't make such time limited plans. I don't keep any physical goals like- by so and so time I'll buy my own apartment or own a Mercedes. Nope!
I'd made a goal that I want to be an actor and I've achieved that goal. The press and media are accepting me and I'm happy with this achievement. Somewhere down the line I want to make films and contribute more to the entertainment industry. But then again, that has no cut-off line.

What are the three things, according to you, that aspiring actors should always bear in mind?
First, know the job.
Second, stay true to it. Be sincere.
Third, it is the medium that makes you and not the other way around. You are never bigger than the medium.

What is the motto of your life?
My motto is as the classic song goes, "Don't worry, be happy".

'I'll keep entertaining you as long as you love me'-Karan Singh Grover

Karan Singh Grover is finally back to Star One's Dill Mil Gaye. And here is Karan talking exclusively to us on his return to the show, on the probable track ahead, his future plans and much more…

Over to Karan Singh Grover…

How is it to get back to Dill Mil Gaye?
It's really awesome to be back. I'm just so astonished to see that the crew has built such a huge set for my comeback episode. I feel like I have come back home after a long time. All my prayers and your prayers have been answered (smiles). So I'm back.

When did you decide to make a comeback to the show?
My come back on the show was confirmed even before my exit episode. But only the exact episode wasn't decided. We've been working on the story-line for quite sometime, and now finally we mutually decided that this is the right time for me to come back.

According to reports, you were in talks with the channel and production house from a long time, and you were to get back exactly during Riddhima and Sid's marriage. Why did that not happen?
Actually at that time there were lot of speculations about my come back. But if I would have entered at that time then there wouldn't be anything new happening. So we thought that when Riddhima fosters some feelings for her husband (Sid), that will be the right time for her true love (Armaan) to come back. This would create real drama.

How is it to get back working with your co-stars in Dill Mil Gaye?
It's a great feeling to get back. But not all are there from the previous batch except for Jennifer (Riddhima) and Pankit(Atul). We all have been friends for a long time now, and I hope they also come back on the show.

What do you have to say about the new interns who are now part of the show?
I have met the new interns too. They all are a cool bunch of people and they have done a fantastic work on sets during my absence, and I hope it continues.

Are you aware that your fans sent out a huge petition to the channel and production house to get you back?
Yes, I'm very much aware about it. I have been receiving lots of messages on personal level through social networking sites like facebook, my personal blog site. Fans have even posted letters at my house, even the Cinevistaas team has been informing me of it. I'm really touched to know that my viewers missed me a lot. And trust me I really wanted to come back too.

Explain to us Armaan's comeback track or scene.
Basically, now that Riddhima is married to Sid, she has also started liking him. But after Armaan's comeback there would be a love triangle happening. As a character I don't blame Riddhima for her choice because, as I was away for a long time, she was left with no option but to move on. The further story is not yet decided, but we can always say that we like to show what the viewers like to see.

Viewers will no longer see Armaan and Riddhima chemistry as Riddhima is now married. So what is your take on this.
In television industry or any industry for the matter of fact, the producer always tries to deliver what the audience likes and wants at the end of the day. So if the viewers want to see Riddhima and Armaan's on screen chemistry, then let's just hope for the best.

So does it mean we will see sparks flying between Riddhima and Armaan now?
See, actually nothing is yet decided, but surely there would be a love triangle happening. And Armaan and Riddhima's love story or their feelings for each other is like never-ending in DMG.

Is it true that you have signed for Zara Nachke Dikha the reality on Star Plus? Will you be hosting it or taking part as contestant. Confirm.
Aah..! That's a suspense though (smiles). Dancing has become my new passion these days, even though I'm not that good at it. Still I'll be taking part as a contestant in the show and not hosting it this year. However, the channel hasn't confirmed that to me yet.

What were you doing in your break?
For the last five months, I have just been vacationing in Goa and Delhi. This is the longest break I have taken since the last four and half years. I have been busy with DMG, Jhalak Dikhlaja and Zara Nachke Dikha. It has been non-stop work for me for a long time. So it was a much needed break.

Why did you plan to get back to DMG and not take up a brand new show?
DMG is very close to my heart, the youth spark in this serial just keeps me attached to it. I have put all my heart and efforts to give my best to this show. And I have always been telling my viewers that if I do television, then I'll surely be doing DMG; it's not that I'm not open to other offers but DMG would be my first priority.

Do you really feel that Armaan-Riddhima chemistry is much more than what Riddhima-Sid chemistry is?
If I say anything right now then it would be a very biased answer. I think we should leave it the audience to decide. (giggles)

Will you also want the show to end with a Riddhima Armaan union, just like your fans feel?
I would like the show to have a happy ending. Hopefully it doesn't end very soon. Ya, it is true that a happy ending leaves one with a happy feeling. And people like it that way.

Tell us about the ups and downs in your personal life? How is life after filing for divorce with Shraddha?
I think every person has some ups and downs in their lives and I tried dealing with it the best way I could. I understand that my fans are concerned and care about me and want to know more of it. But at the end of the day, it's my personal life and I want to keep to myself.

What are your future plans when it comes to television?
I don't plan anything, I just accept life as it comes. Right now there's lot of things happening around, DMG and Zara Nachke Dikha Season 2. So I'll be busy again all day long.

Is it true that the Bollywood movies that had come to you are not happening now?
They are not happening now. We have re-scheduled everything, I can't give you exact dates as of now but they have been postponed.

What are your plans when it comes to Nicole and your apparent relationship?

What about reports that you had an affair going with Jennifer too?

What is your message for your Fans?

'I am back on the sets with the same spirit' - Ragini Khanna

Ragini Khanna popularly known as Bharti from Bhaskar Bharti, who is now essaying the role of Suhana in Star Plus' Sasural Genda Phool, shares her journey from then to now, keeping intact her all time humor.

Firstly, you were quite upset with Bhaskar Bharti going off-air, so has your new serial added up to some equivalent excitement?
There was a lot of viewer ship attached to Bhaskar Bharti, and most importantly it gave me recognition in the industry as a talented actress. So when they decided to end the show, it just put me in a state of depression for quite a long time. I had even thought of giving up my career as an actress, but as said 'Time is the best healer'. If I would have quit my career at that point, then today I would have failed as a person too. So, now I'm back on the sets with the same spirit.

What according to you is the meaning of Sasural Genda Phool?
In scientific terms, Genda Phool is a very complicated flower; it has many small petals intertwined in each other. So, this is exactly how the characters in the serial are related to one another. The characters are all very different from each other, yet bonded together with a sweet family affection.

Could you elaborate on Suhana's character in the serial?
Suhana is a very dominant 21st century girl who believes in living life on her own terms. As she is being nurtured by a single father, she could also be tagged as a pampered kid. But she's filled with lot of joy and enthusiasm.

What similarity do you find in the two roles of Suhana and Bharti?
Both the roles are identically opposite to each other. In Bhaskar Bharti, the role of Bharti was just presented feminine but the complete characterization was male oriented. I had to think, feel and present it as a male chauvinist, whereas in Sasural Genda Phool the role of Suhana is completely feminine, yet very dominant and stands out in her own way. In a way if we have to compare the two, then Suhana is a kind of girl with whom Bhaskar could have easily played off (laughs).

Which amongst the two roles as in Bharti or Suhana you find has been more challenging?
Undoubtedly Bharati's role was much more challenging than that of Suhana. But at the time of depiction the character of Suhana too doesn't come very easily to me, because she is a girl who has the capability of shouting at the top of her voice in anger, and at the very next minute she's being heard laughing her heart out. So, a challenge factor is attached to both the characters.

What kind of marriage would Ragini Khanna prefer - Love or Arranged?
Surely a Love marriage, but cordially arranged by my family (laughs).

What is Ragini Khanna's dream role like?
I would really like to play a role similar to Meena Kumari's in the movie 'Pakeeza', soft yet, vibrant and mesmerizing on the whole.

The actors portraying vamps and villains in TV have gained lot of fame. So how do you see this show which has all positive characters?
The uniqueness of the show is the main strength I feel. And its brilliant cast, super brilliant production house and a wonderful director is just like a topping on the cake. So from my side all's very positive.

How is it to work with your co-actor Jay Soni?
He's an amazing co-actor to work with. In one word I would say he's a brilliant actor.

What can viewers look forward to when Suhana gets married to Ishaan?
(Laughs) Lot of fun, frolic and of course unexpected twists.

We have also heard that you were working on a movie named "Mare Mere Dushman" with Ninaad Kamath, so could you put some light on it?
Yes, that was a movie I had signed before Bhaskar Bharti. And I shot just a single sequence for it. But due to some problematic reasons the movie died at its nascent stage itself.

Are any other movies lined up for the coming year?
Yes, my efforts to be screened on 70mm full screen are in full swing. But I would like to keep that project under disguise for some more time (giggles).

What would your message be for the anxious viewers who are waiting to see more of you on T.V?
I would say that I'm equally disheartened by Bhaskar Bharati's exit from the prime slots, but I would request them to maintain the trust on me. As an actor, variation is a must and I'm trying to deliver the best. Hope that my comeback with this show is warmly welcomed.

"My son loves the fact that I'm an actor!" Chinmayee Sumeet

Chinmayee Sumeet returns to television after a brief hiatus with Colors and Playtime Creations' Laagi Tujhse Lagan. She plays the role of Baabi, a housemaid and mother of three.

Here, Chinmayee talks about how the timing couldn't have been better for her to return to small screen and more…

How does it feel to comeback after so long?
I will not call this a 'comeback' because I never went anywhere! I was always busy with acting. It's just that I've been working in theater.

What do you feel has changed within these years in television?
As a person from theater, I used to feel, once upon a time, that TV is synthetic and theater is more real. But now it has changed. Now we get to see something real and tangible on television too. Therefore, I decided that it won't be a bad thing to take up this offer.

What made you take up this role?
This is a strong character. Plus, nobody offered me something so interesting before, so can't really say that I had many choices.

Was it a conscious decision to stay away from television?
Yes, it was my conscious decision to stay away from television because as you know the schedule gets very hectic with TV soaps. I wanted to watch my children grow up. Now, my children are so grown up that they are too independent. Now they are like- What's this. Mamma is always at home. Ugh! (laughs). Apart from this, my son loves the fact that I'm an actor. When I'm in the green room and doing my make-up (for theater shows), he just looks at me in awe and questions why I'm not doing serials. So his encouragement plays a big hand for me to take up this show.

What was your first reaction towards your character?
When I went for the audition, the brief that was given to me, just took me over. It sort of kept pulling me towards this character. I felt an instant connection with the character of Baabi.

Didn't you have any reservations about playing mom?

I'm thirty – nine! Going by the current trend of television, they should have offered me a granny's role (laughs). So I'm happy I got to play a mother. It very well goes with my real-life age and experience.

Don't you miss getting decked-up for the camera as your character doesn't require it?
I'm so very happy that I'm not loaded with ornaments here. Even my mom told me that in this show at least the make-up is so minimal that she can make out that its indeed her daughter who's on the screen (laughs).

So now that you've started working for television, do you feel you're giving less time to family?
Well, what can I say? I have two families now (laughs). Sometimes I'm with one family and sometimes I'm with my other family.

Why did you choose to do such a stern character like Baabi and not go for comedy like your husband Sumeet Raghavan?
Umm…I guess there's a sort of division of labor. Onscreen my husband does comedy and I'm serious. At home I'm more jovial and my husband is the straight-faced guy.

According to you what is more difficult? Comedy or serious roles?
Definitely, comedy is more difficult.

What's your rapport with your onscreen kids?
Both my onscreen kids, Nakusha and Sethji(Jay Thakkar), are very possessive of me. They are always keen to be around me.

The show's release says, your character has a quirky, friend-like relationship with God. What about your personal relationship with God?
I too have a very friend-like relationship with God. Umm…I guess I have a give and take policy with God. I say to God, if I get this I will spend so much time in your presence. If I don't get this I will not talk to you for this many days.

“Big Boss is very conniving” - Shamita Shetty

Bollywood actress Shamita Shetty explains the reason why she decided to quit Colors' and Endemol's Big Boss mid-way. She also expresses her displeasure at the way Rohit Verma is playing the game.

Over to Shamita…

Why did you quit?
For me my sister's wedding is the most important thing .

Are you hurt that you were not privy to the decision of the date of Shilpa's wedding?
To be honest at first we thought Shilpa's wedding would be in Jan, so I agreed to enter Big Boss thinking that the show would be over by then. But then the wedding was preponed. Anyways Shilpa always wanted to get married this year and it was only Sunny Deol's film which was causing the delay.
Agreed it was quite sad that I came to know through an outsider (Parvesh) that Shilpa was getting married on 25th November. I was quite upset and kept asking Big Boss to call me to the confession room. Finally after 2 days, I was allowed in and saw a box of laddoo's and a letter from Shilpa. She was sorry for having to announce the wedding in my absence. I wanted to quit there and then, but then as nobody would be home for a week ,I decided to wait till the 13th November.

You did not get a chance to say bye to the others?
Yes, but that's the rule of the game. However, it was nice to see Bakhityaar say all those sweet things in the store room. I always knew that Aditi and Bakhtiyaar were my real friends and I was proved right. Even Tanaaz was very close to me as well.

How was your experience?
I had a very good time in the house. I picked up so much about my self. I also learnt to speak Hindi and make kadda Prasad.

But it was heard that you would not do any chores?
Who said so?! I would always help out in the house. I have done jharoo, pocha and vegetable cutting.

What is your take on the game being played?
I never came with any plan. I don't think it's right to hurt anybody just for the game. But sadly some people were doing just that. In this scenario, I am happy that I left at this moment ,for currently the atmosphere in the house is not very pleasant.

Your equation with Rohit?
I never hated Rohit but his back bitching behavior is quite bad. Let us hope that his friends make him realize that what he is doing in the house is wrong.

Will you come back with wild card?
Right now I have just one aim and that is to take part in Shilpa's wedding. A possible wild card entry is the last thing on my mind.

You were a very bad Jailor...
Yes, Big Boss reprimanded me for not taking my task seriously. I really felt bad when I had to imprison Aditi for talking in English. The jail sucks for not only is it very hot, but it's full of yucky insects as well.

Any golden mantra for winning?
No rules work here, for Big Boss is very smart and conniving. He assigns us such tasks that we will surely end up fighting.

Who would you want to remain till the very end?
I would hope that either Bakhtiyaar or Aditi wins.

You won't have much time to prepare for the wedding?
Shilpa is such a sweetheart that she has taken care of most things. And I had already spoken to the designer for the dress before coming in.

Tanaaz Irani on life after Bigg Boss

Tanaaz Irani, the cool one amongst the Bigg Boss inmates is been out of the house last week. Thus, we bring you an interview about her Bigg Boss ride and its experience.

How was your overall experience about BB3?
Ohh! My BB3 journey was fantastic. As I am not that brave to participate in reality shows like Khatron Ke Khiladi and climb up on a building, eat a snake or do such things. Thus, Bigg Boss was a good opportunity to test myself, my conscious as according to me I am quite clear when it comes to my mind. Overall it was ‘good’ for me.

Did you miss your family apart from Bhaktiyar during your BB3 journey?
Yes! Very badly, especially my 17 years old daughter because my small kid is just 3 years old and he is not that attached to me as he has his own friends, maid and toys for himself. His day starts and end with a glass of milk and he is sorted but its not with my daughter’s case. Truly speaking I participated in BB3 just for my daughter; I had really dedicated this show to my daughter as I really wanted to show my daughter how her mom is in real sense.

Which were your happiest moments from BB3?
I enjoyed the entire task and during which I met two more people in BB3 who thinks exactly what I think. These two personalities are Shamita Shetty and Aditi Govitrikar who really inspired me to be their friends. They both are good human beings and their nature was disclosed in front of me when Bakhtiyaar had a tussle with me and they both were consoling him in the way. How I will console him if I would have been at that place, this had really touched me a lot.

Which thing do you dislike from BB3 house?
There are many things which I dislike but the first most thing which would like to say is, people are scared to say any thing in the house, I don’t know what’s wrong to be as you are. People always want to fly away from the circumstances and that’s true because after looking at yesterday’s episode, Poonamji whom I respected had degraded her image in front of me. Why people are behaving as if they have worn a mask on their faces.

How are you feeling after coming out of BB3 house?
Actually not much different because I was same as I am in reality at my residence so it hardly makes any difference for me but yes I am missing Bigg Boss. I hope the days go faster deciding upon the winner. But I am relaxed because now I don’t have to work and apply ‘zhadoo’ at my place as I have maid who looks after all this work and I am spared now from cold water bath. I am much relaxed now.

Do you have any plans for coming back on television?
No, not yet as I am recovering from Bigg Boss house, inmates and everything that happened with me during this few weeks. Let see I may come back with some new ventures but still a big no for every thing.

Pari hoon main: Hina Khan

Hina KhanHina Khan aka Akshara of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai shares her most memorable event of life exclusively with us.

How is Hina in real life?
Hina is very shy, reserved and very emotional kind of a person who do not like to share much about her personal life with others. I am exactly opposite to Akshara as she always depends on others to make her personal decisions but when it comes to Hina she does not bother about others but except her father to make any decision regarding her life. But at the end I do not like to speak much about myself.

How is your journey of Yeh Rishta Kya…?
It was cool till now and ‘Insha allah’ it will be great hence forth. I am pleased to be linked up with such veteran co-actors were I am getting to learn more and more things about acting which I did not know before. After all it’s just a start of my journey and long way to go. Hope I get all support from my audience to move towards success.

Which is your unforgettable memory of life?
Yes, I have one and i.e. my 12th standard cultural program were I have spent a gala time with my teachers and friends. The thing that made the event special was that I have performed on the stage and that too on a dance which is very much difficult for me to do as I am a very bad dancer, I just can’t dance. The song on which I have performed was “Pari Hoon Mein”, it was so weird but we all had fun. Another thing that made it so special was the tears in the eyes of teachers which simultaneously brought tears in my eyes too. The moment was very touchy for me and that is the reason why I have remembered it till now.

What are the similarities and difference between Akshara and Hina?
As I said before I am very confident which Akshara is not as she can’t take her own decision whereas I can take my decisions without concerning any one. But yes there are some similarities which make us one and that are I am shy, emotional, caring for others like Akshara.

Tell something about your likes and dislikes?
Hmm, I like to sleep a lot and like to lie down on my bed but the sad thing is that I don’t get time to sleep as I am always busy working with tight schedule of Yeh Rishta…but whenever I get time I make a note that I rest in my green room. Another thing which I like is shopping but again same reason for not getting to shop and that is only thing which I don’t like.

Do you think that now after Yeh Rishta.. You are settled in your career?
No, not at all I have many plans and goals to reach. It is just the beginning of my career. I have to learn a lot many things in my life. Along with that I have to do many projects but till then I have to concentrate on Yeh Rishta.

Any plans to marry?
No, not still as I am too young to marry and still have never thought about the issue. So as of now its a big no but will definitely let you all know when I plan to get married.

'All have started to call me didi' – Twinkle Bajpai

Twinkle Bajpai, leader of Uttar Pradesh Team in Zee TV's SaReGaMaPa's Mega Challenge, talks about the fact that she owes her independence to the experience that age brings as well as her God-gifted multi-talented nature.

A reality show based on singing, later on dancing add to it a daily soap and now again back to a singing reality show?
I am proud of myself and also thank God that for making me such a multi-talented person. It was difficult to handle both singing as well as acting in a daily soap. But now that I got this show I want to make the best out of it. I am also doing an album which will release soon.

Then why Mega Challenge?
Mega Challenge because Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is the one platform that made Twinkle Bajpai; so it's my duty and responsibility towards them that when they need me I should be there. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is a dignified stage. It has got a class. Moreover, since 15 years the show has been on air, and it will be fun as it is soon to complete the 1000 episodes mark!

What exactly is Mega Challenge?
It's a small episode series that will go on for 7 weeks. It will end on 12th December on which day there will be the finale. We will complete 1000 episodes and we all are associated with this show so as to make it a celebration!

You seem to be very excited to be part of Mega Challenge?
Yes, I am very excited to be in the show. I am so excited that I'm just waiting to get into the amazing costumes that have been designed for me. I will wear gowns and saris. All the dresses reflect the festive mood. There will be live orchestra for the first episode.

Is it that you people are more in a festive mood rather than taking it as a competition?
Yes, we all are in a festive mood. But Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is a competition and we are ready to face the challenge.

You had done a positive role in Betiyaan and a negative in Kyunki?
I like to experiment with my roles. In Betiyaan I had done a very bubbly cute character and in Kyunki a completely negative one. It was fun. Everybody questioned- she has done a positive role how can she do a negative role? But Ekta believed in me and I think I have done good work. As an actor you should be ready for everything.

You got any offer from Balaji after Kyunki?
Yes, they are calling me but I can't do any daily soap. If I shoot for 16-17 hours, I will be sick for three days. So I don't want to trouble anyone. I don't want to do daily soap. I am open to reality shows.

In one of your previous reality shows, you had to endure lots of controversies. So why opt again for reality show?
Any controversy is dependent on the mood of the person. During that reality show we were in that mood. Above all, I am not scared of anybody in life.

What is the concept of the show?
Mega Challenge will be held every Friday. We will perform in a group and Saturday there will be individual performances with elimination of a whole group or state. Every Saturday one whole group will be eliminated.

As a captain of UP group what will be your role?
I am the one who looks after the whole team. I don't wait for Jateenderji to call the contestants for rehearsal; I call them. Yesterday I was with Hemant Brijwasi to make him comfortable.

What changes do you find in yourself in this whole journey?
A lot. I started my career when I was 18 and since then it's been 5 years. All have started to call me didi (laughs). Sometimes I feel awkward but then I say yes I am big. I drive alone. I am now so much independent and as you age, you become more mature.

Lastly what message you want to give to your viewers?
Now the audience will not have any excuse about the vote getting divided. Now everybody will be in a team and if there is no voting I would request my audience to watch our show and support.

'I will go only for 'lead' in Karan Johar film' – Benaf Dadachanji

Benaf Dadachanji who we all know as Baby of Star Plus' Baa Bahu aur Baby talks about her foray into acting and her conditions to enter Bollywood…

Did you always want to be an actress?
Actually, no. Things just sort of happened to me with Halo, for which as you know I won an International Award. That gave me recognition and during my break for studies the ads flowed in. The ads gave way to Baa Bahu aur Baby.

Is there any truth when they say child actors lose their innocence?
It all depends on the child's upbringing. It's on the way the parents treat the child. I have been there…but I don't think I've lost my innocence. People on the sets still address me as bachcha. They say my face drips with innocence! I think it eventually depends on the atmosphere in which the child is brought up. It's the responsibility of the parents to keep the child grounded.

Apart from acting what are your other interests?
I'm very much interested in writing. I love jotting down poems. I accidentally discovered that I have a knack for photography when I was clicking away with my cellphone. So I think that would be my latest interest, so to speak.

What qualities make you a strong personality?
I'm very confident. And I believe that bad days will pass with time and that they only make way for the better.

What are the qualities you think you lack and wish to build?
I think I need to learn to be patient.

In BBB, you play a handicapped girl. Did anyone from your family object to taking up this role?
My mom was a bit concerned. But she got over it. My dad had absolutely no trouble with it. My grandma was not at all in favor of the role. She questioned how I could ever think of taking up such a role. She said – yeh kya polio …and all. (laughs). But then overall, I got the support of my family.

Tell us about your off-screen relationship with Birju aka Amit Verma.
He is a great actor and a good friend. He is one of the most decent people in this industry.

And with Aniruddh aka Karan Sharma?
We have a fun relationship. I keep comparing him to Hrithik Roshan and then he feels shy. We are like two buddies.

Is J. D, a Godfather to you?
No. He is not a godfather to me. But yes, he is protective of me and his whole team in fact. He looks at his professional team like it's his family. I know that he calls me the 'lucky mascot' of Baa Bahu aur Baby. But that's just his good heart speaking and I'm honored nonetheless by his compliment.

What kind of role will make you take a chance at Bollywood?
Any role with substance. I don't want to play a bit part in a big banner. If its movies of directors like Farhan Akhtar or Vishal Bharadwaj then yes I would take up any role because all the roles in their movies are memorable. But if it's a Karan Johar film, then I'd go for nothing less than the lead part.

What are your plans for the future? Do you discuss with family?
I don't make plans for the future at all. I take things as they come. So the question of discussing them with my family does not arise. But when an offer is made I do consult my parents. But eventually they leave the decision to me.

Meet Dadisa’s enemy in Balika Vadhu!

Dadisa's enemyRajendra Gupta aka Mahavir Singh, the latest entrant in Sphere Origins’ Balika Vadhu, is an archrival of Dadisa. Rajendra Gupta who has been in industry for around 24 years, shares his experience on Balika Vadhu and more…

What made you take up Balika Vadhu?
I have been a fan of Balika Vadhu since a long time. I was very impressed by the concept and the way it was presented. I was in touch with lots of artists from the serial and always complemented them for their performance. The sets, costume and language, everything has been worked upon so well that they seem real. Today, there are many serials, which start off with bang but within three months start losing its charm, but Balika Vadhu has maintained its position till today.

Why did you approve of this negative character Mahavir Singh?
As I said earlier, I have been a fan of Balika Vadhu. When the production team approached me for the character of Mahavir Singh, I was more than happy to be associated with the show. Mahavir Singh is a strong character. Though negative, the character holds a strong ground.

How did you prepare yourself to get into the character of Mahavir Singh?
Since I am from Haryana, it was not very difficult for me to pick up the language and the diction. I have been very familiar with the lifestyle, gesture and thoughts. So picking up the character was not an intricate task for me.

How is the experience of working with Surekha Sikri and Heeba Shah?
It’s lovely working with them. Both are very good actors. Since we are all associated with theater, I have worked with them before too. I have great respect for Surekhaji and I think she is a great actor.

Share your experience on working with Sphere Origins?
It’s a very dedicated team. They are very perfect in whatever they do. Preaching a social issue in such an entertaining way is not a piece of cake. They have put in a lot of creativity and imagination, which is why the show is still watched in households.
