'Enacting comedy is like playing a song' - Divyanka Tripathi

Divyanka Tripathi who started her journey in television with Zee TV's Banoo Main Teri Dulhann makes a hilarious comeback with SAB TV's Mrs. & Mr. Sharma Allahabad wale.

Here is Divyanka in an exclusive conversation with us as she shares all her thrilling instances, the hard efforts she has put in and her heartfelt contentment on playing Mrs. Rashmi Sharma..

How's the feeling of enacting the character of Mrs. Sharma?
Mrs. Sharma is definitely a difficult character for me to enact because I'm not all that hilarious and funny in my real life. You will not find me cracking jokes very often; so this element took a bit more time to sink in, but at the same time it's an enjoyable experience.

Also I was a bit apprehensive about the role because it was exactly opposite to my previous character. Earlier I used to return home completely exhausted after a whole day's shoot, but now with the comic atmosphere on sets I do not feel the work trauma anymore.

What kind of response have you been receiving just through the promotional advertisements of the serial?
The response has been very positive, though I haven't received many on a personal front. However, I have heard through my parents and native people in Bhopal that I am being liked. My father runs a medical store in Bhopal and the people who know me as his daughter share their responses with them.

Also my recent personal encounter was at Haji Ali where a woman recognized me to be a television actress. The best part was that she remembered the name of my previous serial, but identified me with my present role of Mrs. Sharma. So I was amazed to know that audience have already started relating to me as Mrs. Sharma. What more can an actor demand for!

How easy or difficult was it for you to do comedy after Banoo Main Teri Dulhann?
I won't regard it to be simple or difficult because once a person understands the concept and his/her character, things start falling in place. The one aspect which makes comedy stand out from the regular drama shows, is that the actor cannot cut and elaborate a dialogue depending on one's convenience when it comes to comedy. Performing comedy is like playing a song; if you miss a single tune the entire song gets spoilt. So in comedy detailing with timing plays a very important role.

How much more effort did you need to put towards this role?
Yes of course comedy demands for a constant high energy in every shot because I have to put in equal amount of humour in my supporting dialogues or punches too. It's an amazing experience as it gives me a feel of doing a stage performance.

How much homework did you do to enhance the character presentation?
Firstly I started observing the people of Allahabad. I did not have a big problem with dialect as I am good in Hindi; I had to just make few modifications here and there. And we also worked on the usage of some sweet words like Mr. Sharma is a very 'my dear person'. Then I started observing my local family women to inherit the innocence and simplicity in the character.

At the look test how did you feel about the entire attire of the character?
I loved it a lot and didn't have to work much myself as far as the look is concerned. I was very much happy with this long sleeved blouse, the big red flower in my hair and I any ways love to put Sindoor on my forehead. So the look was just perfect for me.

Apart from the character do you think such simple and innocent women do exist in real life in the present scenario?
Finding such women in Mumbai could be a bit difficult, but in local places like my native place Madhya Pradesh people are still that simple and innocent. It comes very easily to them. Basically the nature of a person depends on the surroundings in which he/she resides; so in Mumbai one has to be smart and fast in their work, so things differ.

As you said you too hail from a small town so have you met a character similar to Mrs. Sharma in real life?
No, I haven't met someone like her because people around me miss that fun element in them. They do carry certain nuances of Mrs. Sharma but I had nobody from whom I could take a leaf.

Mr. and Mrs. Sharma is threat to Jugni…?

A new rom-com show on SAB TV ‘Mr. and Mrs. Sharma Allahabad wale’ is Ujjwal Rana’s first as a producer.

A source informs, “The show is about to air from 17th of May, every Monday to Thursdays and the tentative timings for telecast is 9:30 pm. The show is all about a stupid yet lovely couple who adore each other for every simple achievement. Divyanka Tripathi and Rajesh Kumar will be essaying the role of Mrs. Rashmi Sharma and Mr. Drasht Dyumn Prasad Sharma respectively.”

“There are also some speculations that D.J ‘s ‘Jugni Chali Jalandhar’ which currently air on 9:30 PM slot might be a closing shop or else can shift its timing slot from 9:30 to 9:00 where the repeat of ‘Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo’ telecasts.” adds source.

A person from the production house says, “No, we have not yet received any information about Jugni… going off air but as the time slot keeps changing might be then once again the time slot changes. But no such news had come to us.”

Let’s see if not Jugni than who is the next to shut shop!

Distressed Muskaan wants to quit Jugni

The bubbly Muskaan Mihani is not a happy soul these days. The reason for it is the alleged politics on the sets of Jugni chali jalandhar. The girl is said to be so upset that she’s supposedly contemplating a move out of the show.

A little birdie from the sets informs, “From the past two months, Muskaan seems very disturbed on sets and is not behaving as before. One can make out from face that something is bothering her.”

The source continues, “Muskaan is fed up of the politics that prevails on the sets of Jugni. Few of her co-actors are making life difficult for Mehani. Their negative comments are making her see red. Apparently, Muskaan is so fed up that she wants to quit Jugni. She’s now eyeing new shows.”

We called Muskaan Mihani but she simply refused to comment.

I’m looking like a bhangi: Divyanka Tripathy

Some believe that she’s arguably the most loved bahu in small screen’s recent history. Her show Banoo main teri Dulhann went off air, but her fans are conspicuous by her long absence. Critics wrote her off but Divyanka is not one to go down quietly in the sunset. Divyanka simply shut herself from the outer world preferring to go into exile mode. The pretty lass will soon be seen in SAB daily titled Mr. and Mrs Sharma.

After a long while, Divyanka picked up her phone much to the surprise of this reporter. One couldn’t help but ask Divyanka as to has she now come out of her exile?

“Yes, I have come out of my exile. I believe in life there comes a time when you must disconnect yourself from the outer world and just stick to your family and close friends. For close to three years, I’d worked day in and day out thereby, I wasn’t able to give time to myself. There were lot of things that I wanted to but I couldn’t take it up. One of them was to have a house of my own,” said Divyanka.

That dream has now turned into a reality with Tripathy buying a 2 BHK flat in the plush area of Malad. The girl from UP took it upon herself to decorate her house. Well, surprisingly, she hasn’t been able to find a maid and so Divyanka is left to do most of the household work viz. brooming, cleaning floors, bathroom and toilets too. The girl though isn’t whining.

“For a while, I did have a maid, but I wasn’t impressed with her work. So, I took it upon myself to wash dishes, bathrooms and even toilet. You won’t believe but I’m looking like a bhangi (sweeper). It’s always best that you take care of your own house. My mother always maintained that you should do your own work. Guess, now I’m following in her footsteps. I feel doing such work instills a sense of humility as you start respecting people for whom this is a means to earn their daily bread,” Tripathy sighed.

The talk now moves out of the house and it’s work again that captures her imagination. She’s got an interesting tale about how she landed Mr. and Mrs Sharma.

Tripathy says, “I had agreed (not signed) to do another project but one day Ujjwal Rana (Mr. and Mrs. Sharma’s co-producer) asked me to come down and have a look at the script. After reading, I was in splits. Rana could sense that I was impressed and so he wouldn’t hear no for an answer. So, I agreed to do a show where I didn’t even shoot the pilot. Guess, it was in my destiny to do Mr. and Mrs.Sharma

Critics are already lamenting Tripathy for opting for a show on a relatively lesser known channel but the actress is unperturbed “I knew, people will raise this point, but I want to tell everyone that I snubbed a bigger GEC for the SAB show. Comedy is something which I always wanted to do. I’ve shed enough tears. Now is the time to make viewers smile,” the former tragedy queen explained.

Finally, it’s Sharad Malhotra who comes to our mind. However, Divyanka is still very diplomatic when it comes to talking about her alleged boyfriend.

“Sharad is doing fine,” pat comes the reply. As always, it’s difficult to get her speak on this one. Anyways, well come back Divyanka.

F.I.R. has a new team mate

She may have fulfilled her desire to enact a negative character as Rani’s (Anjali Abrol) step-mother, Chandrakala Chahi, in Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat, but Guddi Maruti will always remain popular for her comic roles, like her recent stint in Jugni Chali Jalandhar, as the ultra-superstitious ‘Titli Mausi’. She is now back on the small screen, doing what she does best – making the audience laugh. This time, she joins hands with the F.I.R. team.

"Guddi Maruti will soon be seen as the very funny character of a mother-in-law, who loves her daughter-in-law. Since both saas and bahu love each other, the show has a flavour distinctly different from what we see nowadays," says our source.

Guddi confirmed this news. "It was fun to work with the F.I.R. team. We had a lot of fun on the sets," she says. "The sequence goes something like this – our neighbour files a case against my bahu and me, accusing us of hitting him without a reason. My bahu and I pretend to love each other, to prove that we are not like other people. The story progresses, when Chandermukhi Chautala solves the case with her own unique technique," adds the comedienne.

We look forward to this saas-bahu saga, for a change.

Kavita Kaushik attacked by co-actor!

Looks like we have another celeb casualty. Actress Kavita Kaushik barely escaped getting bitten by her co-actor when shooting for Holi special episode of SAB TV's FIR!

We spoke to Kavita who says, "I still don't know how it all happened. We were shooting for Holi special episode, and I was supposed to go and dab color on this lady (junior artiste who was called for the Holi sequence in F.I.R) called Manju Brijnandan Sharma. When I dabbed color on her, she just freaked out, started twisting my fingers and tried her level best to break them. Thank God, I soon pulled myself out of the shock and backed off or else she would've ended up biting my fingers!"

The actress adds, "I have got dislocation of the bones and tissue tear. I've been asked to wear the crepe bandage to help with the swelling and pain."

So how is she feeling now? "Well, to be very honest, I'm not okay yet. It's been fifteen days since the incident and I still am unable to do things properly with my right hand. I can't sign cheques or autographs. I can't text message," tells Kavita.

Even after experiencing this awful incident, Kavita isn't wary or angry. She tells us, "The production house people and director said that a formal complaint will be made to the Cine Artists Association but I told them not to as acting might be the only source of earning an income for her. But they have certainly barred her from appearing in FIR from now on. And I'm not scared because things happen, we can't help it or let them slow us down. But Kiku Sharda certainly is scared of the weird woman now. He keeps saying stuff like – woh kuch bhi kar sakti hai. Mujhe toh use door hi rehna hai. (She's capable of doing anything. I definitely want to stay away from her)"

We wish Kavita a quick recovery!

The two part Holi special episode series airs starting Monday, March 01 and Tuesday, March 02, 10.30 pm on SAB.

Elaborating on the on sets incident Sucheta informs, “There was a sequence were I have to shoot with a calf who was forcibly taken away from her mother for a shoot with me.Thus, the mother was very annoyed with me.”

Pakoda break on the sets of Lapataganj

LapataganjOne of the protagonists from the show Lapataganj (SAB TV) is always keen to feed the tummy of the unit with his yummy preparations. This guy always runs into the kitchen situated on the set, to cook various mouth watering items for his co-actors. Any guess for the actor?

Little birdie from the sets informs, “The veteran actor, Vinith Kumar who essays the role of Kachua chacha in the serial is very fond of cooking and thus prepares one or the another item on the sets to make the atmosphere more cheerful. Recently when the actor had enough time he rushed to the kitchen and prepared ‘pakoda’ for the whole unit which tasted yummy.”

So to know more about the happening we called up Sucheta Khanna (Indumati), she perkily said, “He is an fantastic cook and a humorous kind of a guy who always think that work should be done with full enjoyment and one should be satisfied at the end of the day. So he does all these things on the set which gives us break from all the tensions and hectic schedule.”

“And truly speaking pakoda’s were so mouth watering and tasty that we are now addicted to his delicacies and always waits for his another recipe to be enjoyed,” she added.

From all this we can at least say that even if the serial’s name is Lapataganj, one thing will never be never be lapata and that is Vinith’s yummy dishes, isn’t it?
