Divorce Earns ‘Pavitra Rishta’ A TVR Of 7.6

What an irony that it is a break-up that has helped ‘Pavitra Rishta’ (Holy relation) bring joy to its makers? Zee TV and and Balaji Telefilms must be wondering why they didn’t think of Archana-Manav’s divorce before.

Last Monday’s episode where Archana and Manav divorce each other, has clocked a staggering TVR of 7.6 making it the undisputed top show for the TAM week 23 (May 30-June 5). In fact, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ occupies the top five spot now. At number six is Star Plus’ ‘Pratigya’ which registered a TVR of 5.5. The top positions are occupied by four Zee TV shows with ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ (5.3) and Colors’ ‘Uttaran’ (5.1) following close behind at the seventh and ninth spot respectively.

Throughout the week, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ maintained an average rating of 6.3 TVR – the only show to have an average TVR of over 5. Tuesday and Wednesday’s TVR stood at 6.1. There was a drop in the following two days with the show finishing with a TVR of 5.7 on Friday

The ‘Pavitra Rishta’ juggernaut, though didn’t change Zee TV’s position on the GRP ladder. The Essel Group owned channel didn’t gain a single GRP more than last week and stood firm at 249. The top positions remained intact, but both Star Plus and Colors lost 19 and 24 GRPs to finish at 317 and 271 respectively.

Colors must have expected more from ‘Balika Vadhu’, where Anandi and Jagdish were nearly separated after Massa had all but married off her grandson to a new bride, last week. However, this Sphere Origin show could only muster a TVR of 4.5. Star Plus has just one show at the top, but the collective result of all its shows ensured that it stayed at number one.

In non-fiction, Zee TV’s DID ‘L’il Masters’ continues to be top with a TVR of 4.5 After a good opening where it crossed 4, Colors ‘Chak Dhoom Dhoom’ (2.7) has dropped behind both ‘L’il Masters’ and ‘Zara Nachke Dikha 2’ (2.9). ‘Indian Idol’s’ TRPs dropped to 2, while ‘Desi Girl’ (1.7) continues to be the top rated show on Imagine TV.

Pankit Thakker in Imagine's Rakt Sambandh..

Pankit Thakker is a happy man these days, after being nominated for the Best Comic Role in the Popular category at the Gold Awards to be held in Mumbai this time!!

Well, the actor is elated for another reason too, as he has bagged a meaty role in Imagine's upcoming show, produced by UTV Telly Talkies, titled Rakt Sambandh.

According to our source, "Pankit Thakker will be one of the leads in the multi-cast show. He is the guy opposite Sonali Nikam, who happens to be the third sister. His is a performance oriented role, which he has never attempted before".

As per our source, the role was earlier to be essayed by Prashant Chawla, but now it will be Pankit donning the character.

When contacted, confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I am part of Imagine's Rakt Sambhandh. It is a challenging role, and this is all that I can say at this moment".

The promo of the show featuring the five sisters Bhairavi Gupte, Sayantani Ghosh, Sonali Nikam, Gungun Uprari and Sriti Jha along with their father, to be played by South actor Kitty has been shot near Satara. The show has gone on floors yesterday.

The promo is expected to hit the screens very soon.

Sarvagunn Sampanna will raise questions related to culture-Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor, the Czarina of Television is back with an array of new fiction shows, of which the first in the line is the tale of Swara, a Lavni based dancer who possesses all the good qualities that a perfect bride can have, but still faces problems from the society who refuse to look beyond her art form and accept her to be Sarvagunn Sampanna.

Here is Ekta Kapoor as she talks of her new Imagine show, Sarvagunn Sampanna.

What was the idea behind the concept of Sarvagunn Sampanna?
Actually I was looking for a concept that has a background which is culturally rich, at the same time talks of certain disrespectful attributes prevalent in the society. Basically I was looking for a show based on background versus character, like the recent Marathi movie 'Natrang'. The entire credit for this concept of Lavani goes to my Creative Head Prashant Bhatt.

This is your second show after Pavitra Rishta based on Marathi cultural background, so what's your take on it?
Yes, Pavitra Rishta is doing good. So I thought of another project based on the same base. I feel Maharashtra is a state which has so much lifestyle variation within one culture. For instance lifestyle of a middle class in all respects differs from that person living in a village, so this is an attempt to portray the life of a rural cultural family.

Along with the ongoing shows, you have so many new shows lined up. How do you look at it?
I would say that leaves me with no time to exercise (smiles).

So how do you plan to strategize the different concepts of your upcoming shows?
See that is what needs to be worked out now. I'm planning to space out all the serials systematically, so that no serial feels left out at any point of time. We work for the audience with full dedication, so don't want the purpose to be defeated.

What do you think would be the USP of Sarvagunn Sampanna?
I feel Sarvagunn Sampanna will raise those questions which have never been raised by a layman suffering the trauma as this. Even today dance as an art form is looked down in some parts of the country, so this serial would raise such questions attached to the culture and will also try to detach the individual personality of a person from his/her background.

So the message and USP of the show would be to inculcate questions related to the concept of a perfect bride in society.

Why did you choose Pooja Bose as your lead again?
Basically we were looking for a face that has some facial structure resembling to those belonging to that particular cultural belt. We auditioned thousands of people for the same but then when Pooja came in for the look test, we found her perfect for the role. Above all, she is a Bharatnatyam dancer, so it gets easier for her to pick the Lavani form of dance faster.

Surprise! Sarvagunn Sampann to air at 7.00 pm

For over a decade, Balaji Telefilms has achieved prime time loyalty. As a premier production house, Balaji has seldom settled for any other slot.

Over the last fortnight, the industry has been guessing the time slot for their new show, Sarvagunn Sampann, on Imagine. It was widely speculated that Imagine will have to bump off one of its existing shows to make way for Sarvagunn Sampann. However, the other shows can breathe easy as Balaji, surprisingly, has opted for the 7.00 pm slot.

“Sarvagunn Sampann will launch on 10th May and will air at 7.00 pm. It wasn’t an easy decision for either the channel or the production house. In the end, one had to settle with it. New shows are expected but so far there’s been no decision on which show to axe. In the given circumstances, the 7.00 pm slot was vacant, thus, Sarvagunn Sampann had to be accommodated there,” said a channel insider.

Meanwhile, speculation over Pooja Bose’s future in the show now appears to be a publicity stunt.

An actor from the show informs, “Pooja Bose has been shooting with us daily. I don’t think she’s being replaced. We’ll be leaving soon for Kolhapur, too.”

“Bandini reminds me of Kyunki” — Sumeet Sachdev

Sachdev, who managed quite a fan following as Gomzi, or Gautam, in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, saw one of his shows, ‘Pyaar Ka Bandhan’, going off air this week. And with that Sumeet has now made an entry in ‘Bandini’ as Rudr, a close friend of Sarang’s. But it seems being on the sets of ‘Bandini’ is taking him on a trip into memory lane.

In a casual chat with us, the actor says, “We usually did individual shoots for ‘Pyaar Ka Bandhan’, but shooting for ‘Bandini’ is a lot like ‘Kyunki…’ where there were a lot of characters and all. Also, I have worked with Ronit earlier and we share a good rapport. There is a lot of energy on the sets as there are all youngsters.” He adds, laughing, “And I simply love wearing dhotis. I think I’m going to buy a couple of them soon.”

We found that Sumeet’s character in ‘Bandini’ has some gray shades, and when asked whether Rudr shares any similarities with Gautam, he says, "I wouldn’t say that. Gomzi was basically a spoilt brat but was not evil at heart. It was the circumstances and upbringing that made him what the kind of person he was. On the other hand, Rudr is caught in an obsession for Dharamraj Mahiyavanshi’s wife and because she keeps insulting him, it indirectly adds fuel to the fire. Also, he is from a city background and does not see the limitations of village culture.

Sriti Jha bags the lead role; Naman Shaw in Rakt Sambandh..

Imagine and UTV Telly Talkies' upcoming show, Rakt Sambandh which talks about the blood ties of the five sisters even after they have moved towards their individual lives has finally found its female lead in Sriti Jha.

There were reports that Sriti Jha was the first option to play the role of the youngest sister. She was also the channel's favorite to play the role. However, the channel and production house were looking for other options, and according to the reports, Panchi Bora of Kayamath fame was also considered.

The latest on this is that, Sriti Jha has finally bagged the role, and has also signed the contract papers. Sachin Chabra will play the guy opposite her. The girl will also have another guy in her life, for which Naman Shaw has been finalized.

According to our source, "Sriti Jha who is presently seen in Imagine's Jyoti has been finalized for the youngest sister's role. Naman Shaw and Sachin Chabra will be playing the guys opposite her".

When contacted, Sriti Jha confirmed that she has taken up the show, but refused to divulge anything more than that.

We tried calling Naman Shaw, but he remained unavailable.

Naman Shaw presently plays the protagonist Ajinkya in Star One's Ssshhh Phir Koi Hai. Ssshhh Phir Koi Hai is expected to end in mid May.

Lies and Divorce wreck Jyoti’s life

The Vashistha family, in Imagine’s Jyoti, has made it very clear that they want to have nothing to do with Jyoti (Sneha Wagh). Therefore, the family has promised her an alimony of Rs 50 lakhs, if she agrees to divorce Pankaj (Sarvar Ahuja). The plan is to get Pankaj married to somebody from a wealthy family. Under pressure, Jyoti agrees to sign the papers. Not too sure of her intentions, the Vashistha family highlight in court the fact that Jyoti and Pankaj were living separately for a year. Therefore, the unborn child in Jyoti’s womb cannot possibly be Pankaj’s. Jyoti cannot bear this character maligning, but she is helpless, and the judge gives the benefit of the doubt to the family.

Lakshmi's struggle continues in Devi post leap...

The story of NDTV Imagine and Shakuntalam Telefilms' Neer Bhare Tere Naina Devi will be taking a five year leap tonight. With this, the little kid Lakshmi who grows up to be considered as Devi by the villagers is shown to be a fun-filled girl of age five.

The character of Lakshmi will now be played by the six year old Reem, who is a convent student in Andheri. This is her first television show, and she has been shooting for the past few days.

According to our source, "Lakshmi grows to be a happy child who loves to play with friends and wants to study. However, with her being considered as Devi, she has been deprived of education. Her father Ghasita (Hemant Pandey) has become a rich Chaudhary and now has a new name and is referred to as Ghanshyam. Lakshmi's mother continues to be the doting mother to her kids, and tries her level best to protect her daughter".

The leap will introduce many new things in the show. The characters like Ghasita, Suhagi (Dipali Pansare) and others will have a changed look. They will have better houses to live in, with them becoming rich. Also, the changes in relationships will also be focused.

"Suhagi has grown a bit stronger, and her main motive is to hide from her daughter the fact that she is considered to be Devi. However, the weekly 'Devi Darshans' have forced her to tell her daughter that all that is happening around her is kind of fake and she just has to be part of it without believing in it. In other words, Suhagi tries her best to keep the innocence in her daughter alive", adds our source.

Pankaj to remarry in Imagine's Jyoti...

Pankaj aka Sarwar Ahuja in NDTV Imagine's Jyotihas moved on in life, after getting the divorce papers signed by Jyoti (Sneha Wagh).

His family is now thinking of getting him married again, and Pankaj actually accepts the decision. There will soon be a new girl in Pankaj's life, and entering the show will be Sonia Singh.

Sonia Singh is presently seen in the role of Dr. Kirti in Star One's Dill Mill Gaye.

According to our source, "Sonia Singh has started shoot, and her entry will be aired on Monday. Her character name is Neelam, whose family accepts Pankaj as their son-in-law. Soon the roka ceremony of Pankaj and Neelam will be shown, and their marriage will also happen".

The upcoming track will focus on Pankaj and Jyoti taking their individual stands for their future.

Giving more detail on Neelam's character, our source states, "Neelam will neither be a completely positive nor a negative character. She will react differently depending on the situations she is put into".

Confirming the news Sonia Singh told us, "Yes, I have started shooting. However, you need to watch the show to know more about my character".

Daljeet works her way into Shaleen’s heart!

Don’t get shocked if we tell you that the newly married actress Daljeet has turned chef and keeps herself busy cooking scrumptious meals in kitchen for hubby Shaleen. But yes! It’s true as post-marriage the actress had consciously looked into household business and tries to impress Shaleen with her culinary skills.

In a chit-chat with Daljeet she tells, “After marriage I was deliberately at home to learn the entire household work as I am on a break now and Shaleen is working for ‘Do Hanso Ka Joda’. Thus, I decided to pay attention on Shaleen as when I start working again, I won’t get time to look after him. So now-a-days I get up early in the morning and cook food for him and pack lunch for his shoot.” “Meals that have paneer (cottage cheese) and eggs are his favorite so I usually try something with paneer and egg, I don’t know whether I am a good cook or not but he always appreciates me for the varieties. And maybe due to this he has gained weight and in contrary I have lost my weight,” she rues smiling.

Upcoming Fiction shows in 2010

For the couch potato 2010 is sure to be a roller coaster ride with an entertaining line up of television programming all set to hit the sets. Along with the social dramas that are a hit nowadays, mythology, family fights and love tiffs are also in the race for the big, bad TRP battle.

Audience will be in splits as SAB TV comes up with a silent comedy ala Charlie Chaplin movies. NDTV’s funny Family show ‘Ghar Ki Baat Hai 2’ will tickle audience’s funny bone.

There are different genre shows coming up this year that may be breathers for audience from same old stuff like YRF’s ‘Seven’ a sci-fi fiction, ‘Powder’ a thriller chase drama based on underworld crime stories. Ekta Kapoor’s detective show will be competing with ‘Crime Patrol’ that returns back after long break for its second season and with similar themed show from the production house of Red Chillies.

Romance will also show its magic this year as shows like ‘Do Hanso Ka Joda’ and ‘Paheli’ are love stories with a difference which will compete to gain audience attention. YRF’s ‘Rishta.Com’ has two partners of a matchmaking company falling in love while ‘Mahi Way’ is the story of a cute, fat girl who doesn’t believe that being fat will obstruct her from meeting her dream boy and will mark Sharon Prabakar’s TV debut.

Social Dramas will also be seen on TV with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ having Rajesh Kumar playing lead role of fat man with some obsessions and ‘Traffic Signal’ where three different women share their life experiences will be aired. ‘Visarjan’ on ‘Colors’ has the story of a village girl marrying a rich old guy to protect her identity will also compete in this category.

1966 Air India Crash Victim Re - Born

Imagine's shocking new reality show 'Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka' is sure to have you sitting at the edge of your seat.

Bhopal resident Swati Singh who had an unexplainable fear of heights and air travel was taken back to her past life by renowned Mumbai psychologist Dr. Trupti Jayin. The past life regression therapy done on Swati revealed some shocking facts. During her regression, Swati went back to the year 1966 and saw herself as Mr. D Singh an Indian Sailor.

Swati, who would tremor at the thought of travelling by air and panic during take-off and landing heaved a sigh of relief and felt positive post her regression. " I was a complete skeptic and did not believe in the theory of Past Life Regression. But whatever happened to me during my regression was beyond my wildest imagination. I was shocked at the outcome of it all. I now am a believer and know that there is something beyond this world." says Swati Singh.

Basera going off air

NDTV Imagine and Sagar Arts' Basera has been shown the exit door.

According to our source, "Since a month back, seeing the appalling state of TRPs, the show was under the scanner. The budget of the show, thanks to the huge star cast was very high and was not giving good returns with the TRPs. The production house and channel had a meeting and came to a conclusion that if the show could cut down on budget then they would allow it sustenance for a few more months but on a different time slot, which is why authorities kept denying reports of Basera going off air inspite of Raaz- Pichle Janam Ka promos showing that it would be aired in Basera's time slot of 9:30pm. But seems like the solution was not feasible."

The source adds, "Another problem was that the TRPs were good only when Ram Kapoor and Pallavi Subhash were focused. When Priya Bhatija and Amit Jain's love-story took over, the ratings dropped. Maybe audiences wanted more focus on the original concept of the show- 'children turning against their parents'. To top this, the saving grace of the show Ram Kapoor had date problems from 5th December as he is the host for Rahul Ka Swayamvar which has its sets outside Mumbai. So obviously, Ram couldn't afford to shuttle back and forth. He needed a definite break from Basera. This means the creatives had to manage with a parallel track. But with the shows TRP hopes pinned solely on Ram, the channel didn't think Basera would improve at all in Ram's absence. All this finally made the channel back-off from running the show."

So now the decision has been made to chuck Basera. The tentative date scheduled for the show to go off air 4th is December.

Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka to launch in Basera slot..

Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka, the show which dwells into the past lives of people will launch on NDTV Imagine on December 7th, at the 9.30 PM slot, Monday to Thursday.

This means Sagar Arts' Basera which airs at the same time slot of 9.30 PM will undergo a change. The promos of Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka hitting the television tubes from December 7th is already on air.

According to our source, "The TRP of this larger than life portrayal which has many big names has not been good ever since its launch, and there is every chance of the show going off air. However, the channel and production house have not reached on any decision with regards to the future of Basera".

A source from the channel told us, "Two options are open as of now; the show might go off air, or might get a change in time slot. However, nothing has been decided yet".

We talked to Amit Jain and Priya Bhatija who said, "We have not been shooting for the show for the past two weeks, as have no news on anything".

Pallavi Subhash though expressed her surprise over this development and told us, "Yes, I too got to know of this thro the promo that is being aired on Imagine. I tried calling my production team for an answer, but all I got to know was that the production team and channel authorities were busy in a meeting, discussing the same. Also, we have a break in shoot today as our screenplay is not ready. So things will be clearer, when I go for my shoot tomorrow".

Coming over to Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka, the channel and production house believe that this unique show and its concept will attract viewers. Many big names like Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Celina Jaitley, Sushmita Sen, Shekhar Suman, Neil Nitin Mukesh have been approached to take part in the show.

Imagine’s Basera to end?

The buzz is that Basera, NDTV Imagine's show on changing family relationships focusing on five families hasn't been well-accepted by the audience and so the channel might pull it off.

According to people in the know, the channel is not happy with the way Sagar Arts is telling the story. Imagine further feels that the above production house while very good with mytho- fantasy ( Ramayan ,Vikram Betal) seems unable to deliver on the family drama space.

Producer Prem Sagar when contacted says, "Average TRP is 1. Tuesday's rating was 1.1 against Bandini which was 1.2 average. Basera is an eye opener for every family in India with regards to today's generation and the public will decide if the show has to go off air. The numbers are coming good in comparison to other NDTV shows." If the show does end it will indicate that something really has gone wrong, for Basera has been on air only since August this year.

Pallavi Subhash who essays the protagonist Ram Kapoor's wife claims to have no knowledge of her show going off air. "All I know is that we have a good story and the ratings are not bad," she says.

Priya Bhatija who has not been seen in the show for some time is unhappy with the fact that her blocked dates are not being used. "I have been given a narration of how my character Nandini will make a comeback, but in TV you never know how things materialize in the face of TRP and track pressures. I don't know how Basera will pan out in the near term," she says. Priya further adds, " I will not be surprised if the show does end."

The source justifies the possible axing of Basera on the grounds that the channel has a number of new shows in the pipeline. The first would be "Raaz Pichhle Janam Ka." However our khabru refuses to speculate on whether this reality show on past life would take Basera's place for the channel is yet to decide on making it a weekly or daily.

All attempts to contact the elusive Ram Kapoor and the channel failed to elicit any response.

Celina, Sreeshant, Monica, Aditya to know their Raaz?

When contacted, Monica Bedi refused to comment on this.

We sent a text message to Celina Jaitley's manager, but we did not get any revert.

We contacted the host of the show Ravi Kissen who said, "I don't want to get into the contestants' names. All I can tell you is that I play the mediator between the contestant and the doctor, Trupti Jayin. I will ask the person about his/her problems, and then lead them to the doctor, who will start with the meditation course. After this is done, I will try to make the person feel good".

The show is expected to launch on NDTV Imagine in the last week of November.

Barely had the buzz regarding the personal details of Sach Ka Saamna contestants died down, NDTV Imagine's upcoming show 'RAAZ… PICHHLE JANAM KA will uncover the hidden secret of past lives of well known Bollywood stars and common people as well.

According to our source Jail hero, Neil Nitin Mukesh has signed the dotted line. Talks are also on with Sushmita Sen and Karisma Kapoor, but no final decision has been reached. The names of Kapil Dev, Shekhar Suman and Jackie Shroff, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Saif Ali Khan and others are also being considered. Yesteryears diva Rekha declined apparently saying that enough has been said about her present life and she would not want people to talk about her past as well.

Bhojpuri super star Ravi Kissan will be anchoring the show. This Big Idea produced show will apparently air in November or December this year.

According to our source, "As opposed to popular belief the journey into previous lives is not based on hypnosis rather there is a proper science called Past Live Regression. “Sush will be the first guest on the show as she talks about her pechle janam to Ravi. The shooting of the same will start on 28 of this month,” chirps the source.

Proximity of Rakhi-Elesh irks the parents
