Divorce Earns ‘Pavitra Rishta’ A TVR Of 7.6

What an irony that it is a break-up that has helped ‘Pavitra Rishta’ (Holy relation) bring joy to its makers? Zee TV and and Balaji Telefilms must be wondering why they didn’t think of Archana-Manav’s divorce before.

Last Monday’s episode where Archana and Manav divorce each other, has clocked a staggering TVR of 7.6 making it the undisputed top show for the TAM week 23 (May 30-June 5). In fact, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ occupies the top five spot now. At number six is Star Plus’ ‘Pratigya’ which registered a TVR of 5.5. The top positions are occupied by four Zee TV shows with ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ (5.3) and Colors’ ‘Uttaran’ (5.1) following close behind at the seventh and ninth spot respectively.

Throughout the week, ‘Pavitra Rishta’ maintained an average rating of 6.3 TVR – the only show to have an average TVR of over 5. Tuesday and Wednesday’s TVR stood at 6.1. There was a drop in the following two days with the show finishing with a TVR of 5.7 on Friday

The ‘Pavitra Rishta’ juggernaut, though didn’t change Zee TV’s position on the GRP ladder. The Essel Group owned channel didn’t gain a single GRP more than last week and stood firm at 249. The top positions remained intact, but both Star Plus and Colors lost 19 and 24 GRPs to finish at 317 and 271 respectively.

Colors must have expected more from ‘Balika Vadhu’, where Anandi and Jagdish were nearly separated after Massa had all but married off her grandson to a new bride, last week. However, this Sphere Origin show could only muster a TVR of 4.5. Star Plus has just one show at the top, but the collective result of all its shows ensured that it stayed at number one.

In non-fiction, Zee TV’s DID ‘L’il Masters’ continues to be top with a TVR of 4.5 After a good opening where it crossed 4, Colors ‘Chak Dhoom Dhoom’ (2.7) has dropped behind both ‘L’il Masters’ and ‘Zara Nachke Dikha 2’ (2.9). ‘Indian Idol’s’ TRPs dropped to 2, while ‘Desi Girl’ (1.7) continues to be the top rated show on Imagine TV.

Star Plus takes over to ruby red from prior blue logo

Star Plus which tags itself as an inseparable part of each-other's family; on the eve of completing 10 glorious years in Hindi television and with a view to deepen it's bond with the viewers the channel has decided to feature a refreshed Star Plus logo, the Ruby Star and a new perspective.

On this significant occasion, Uday Shankar, CEO Star India Pvt. Ltd said, "It gives me pleasure to announce the refreshed brand for our flagship channel. The new logo ruby star which beckons viewers to enter the crystal world of Star Plus is scheduled to debut on June 13th with the Star Parivar Awards 2010.

Big 'B' to host KBC 4 ??

After highlighting many big names from Bollywood industry including Aamir Khan to host Kaun Banega Crorepati season 4, it seems as if the production house Synergy has summed down again to the legendary actor and persona Amitabh Bachchan who indeed holds the credit for making the season 1 and 2 a great success.

Though the core team has sorted out to retain their original host of the show but may be they couldn't do the same with the channel.

A little birdie informed us that, "The chances of Amitabh Bachchan hosting the upcoming season of KBC seems to be taking a practical turn. But there is a shift of channel the upcoming season would be telecasted on Sony unlike the past on Star Plus."

We even messaged Ajay Bhalwankar, head of Sony TV and Anita Kaul Basu, Managing Director of Synergy but couldn't receive a reply.

Kunal Verma Irked by Link-Up Reports

Kunal Verma and Pooja Bose are seeing each other. For long, it has been speculated. Some even joked (April Fool) that the two have secretly gotten married in Panchgani. Amidst these incessant speculative reports, the duo has always maintained that they are friends. Bose clarified this to us earlier. It’s now Verma who is seconding Bose’s claim. In fact, the actor, who usually is very reticent, is now tired of such gossip.

“There’s a prominent entertainment newspaper which wrote all these lies about my personal life. I’ve had enough of such gossip. Time and again, the media keeps coming up with such stories, but as always, there’s no truth in it,” said Verma.

Adding to that, he says, “Look, you develop a bond with your colleagues while shooting together. After all, most of the time you see the same faces. It’s not just with Pooja but also with my other colleagues from ‘Tujh Sangh Preet Lagayi Sajna’. I’m not the one to hide anything about my personal life. If at all, there’s a girl in my life, I will surely come and disclose it to the whole world. Presently, I’m solely concentrating on my career.”

Guess, it’s high time we (media) take the actor’s word and assume that he’s indeed very much single and eligible too. Hey girls, what you’re waiting for?

Neha Saxena in Balaji Telefilms' Tere Liye..

Star Plus' Tere Liye, produced by Balaji Telefilms is going to be the next biggie for the channel when it comes to fiction.

As we already know, Harshad Chopra and Rajat Tokas have been finalized to play the leads. Shakktii Aroraa who was last seen in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo will play a pivotal role.

The latest is that Neha Saxena who impressed one and all as Dhani in Star Plus' Sajan Ghar Jaana Hain (till the time she was replaced by Barkha Bisht), has been finalized to play the parallel lead in Tere Liye.

According to our source, "Ekta Kapoor personally liked Neha Saxena a lot, and Ekta was the one who wanted Neha in the show. Neha will play the girl opposite Rajat Tokas".

When contacted, Neha Saxena confirmed that she is part of the show, but refused to talk more than this.

Geetanjali Tikekar and Nikhil Arya will also be essaying important roles in the show. Noted actor Supriya Shukla will also be seen in the show.

The promo of the show featuring the kids is on air at the moment. The show is expected to take a leap after the initial 20-30 episodes.

Shakktii Aroraa now joins Harshad in the 'Tere Liye' team..

The list of new serials to be launched post IPL seems like a never ending rope, and so is Balaji Telefilms, in the quest of giving the audience yet another show on Star Plus, Tere Liye.

TellyBuzz had recently reported that Harshad Chopra has been finalized to play the lead in the show, and playing his younger version is Devarsh Thakkar. Joining the cast now will be Shakktii Aroraa who has almost been finalized to play a pivotal role in the show.

According to our source, "Shakktii Aroraa who was recently seen essaying a negative role in Zee TV's Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo has been finalized to essay a meaty role".

The story will revolve around three brothers, and Shakktii is expected to play one of the brothers.

When contacted, Shakktii Aroraa refused to comment. He essayed the role of Mukul in Zee's Agle Janam.

The production house plans to start shoot from May 16th, but all depends on the finalization of the rest of the cast. The female lead for the show has not been finalized yet.

Kritika working extra hard for Zara…

All the contestants of ‘Zara Nachke Dikha’ are geared up to set the stage on fire with their sizzling moves. But along with this burning desire, there is that fear of getting eliminated that is constantly on their minds. Kritika Kamra shares similar feelings.

“I am trying very hard and rehearsing day and night for the show as our second technical will held today and final shoot for 3rd episode will be completed tomorrow,” says an exhausted Kamra.

She told that performing in a reality show is not an easy job and requires lot of energy. She added that the audience will only see their performance and that they won’t know at what hour of day was it being recorded so one needs to show his/her vigor even if shoot is happening at odd hours.

“Its just the start and I am already feeling tired, let’s see how far I go in the race and how much the audience likes me and my dance,” signs off Kritika.

Pavitra Rishta, DID, propel Zee to No. 2 spot

The GEC warfare was mainly restricted to Star Plus and Colors, but the Indian Premier League has restored parity, thereby enabling other key players to up their ante. Cashing in on this is Zee TV, which has pushed Colors aside to reclaim the second spot.

Taking the charge for Zee TV are ‘Pavitra Rishta’ and ‘Dance India Dance 2′, especially the grand finale. The two shows clocked in a TVR of 5.7 and 5 respectively. While the former was the number two rated show, the latter came in tied at fifth with Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Zee TV’s ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ and ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ occupied the eighth and ninth spot, respectively, for Week 17 (18-24 April).

Leading the pack once again is Star Plus with 298 GRPs followed by Zee TV (284) and Colors (276). Interestingly, Zee trailed Colors by just one GRP in the previous week, but this time it has gained 16 GRPs to Colors’ 7. Star Plus lost 19 GRPs but maintained its numero uno position.

Coming to the IPL, the first semifinal between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 21 April fetched a TVR of 7.4 while the second semifinal featuring Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers drew TVR of 5.8 across the country.

The rating of the IPL final will come next week but the Hindi GECs will now breathe easy as the IPL storm is over.

Suhana gives her Sasural a Tough Time

Star Plus’s ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ will now actually take the inclination after the marriage of Suhana (Ragini Khanna) with Ishaan (Jay Soni) as now what the actual track of the show will come on the edge.

A source says, “Even though until now Suhana has rejected to marry Ishaan (because she always wanted to marry a dashing guy which Ishaan is not), will say yes to the alliance as after all she is her fathers ‘sweet daughter’ and for him she sacrifices her desires to tie the knot with Ishaan.”

“Just because of her family Suhana gets ready to marry Ishaan but will give a tough time to her sasural folks and will make their life living hell. At least initially she will throw tantrums and will behave very rudely.”

We called Ragini Khanna aka Suhana and she say, “Yes, Suhana will give tough time to her sasural people and the story will gear its actual flavor.”

Zara Nachke Dikha goes for an extravagant promotional shoot..

The Battle of Sexes, Zara Nachke Dikha on Star Plus is expected to launch sometime in May.

A special promotional Music Shoot for the same has been organized at Karjat, which will be shot today and tomorrow. This will be followed with the shoot of a promotional video wherein all the contestants participating in the show will be presented.

According to our source, "Pritam will be composing music for the audio track, while well known singers from the industry Sunidhi Chauhan, Anushka Manachandani, and Sooraj Jagan of 'Give Me Some Sunshine' fame will be the singers".

"Earlier, Shreya Ghoshal and Zubin of Ya Ali fame had been finalized to be part of the singing team, but things did not work out as they were categorized to having a romantic voice, which would not suit the theme of the audio track", informs our source.

We earlier had exclusive news that Dia Mirza, Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu had been approached to judge the show.

And as per the latest, it is Shilpa Shetty who has been finalized as one of the judges on the show.

The actress has herself confirmed the news on a social networking site saying, "I will be judging Zara Nachke Dikha on Star. It's official and we are on".

As per our source, "Ganesh Hegde is also mostly finalized as the second judge on the show,but the final decision is to be taken by the channel on this. The third judge has not been decided yet".

Aamir Khan to Host Kaun Banega Crorepati?

A buzz has come to us that ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ of Bollywood, Aamir Khan, will be the next celebrity to host ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’(KBC). The show has been hosted by noted celebrities like Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Now, surprisingly, Aamir has been approached to host KBC.

Our source reports, “Even though Aamir has been tipped for hosting KBC, he has not yet accepted the offer but on other hand had not rejected it either. Reportedly, Aamir has been offered even more money than SRK and Big B, around 75 lakhs per episode and once he is sorted out, the deal will be inked. Aamir’s initial reaction to decline the offer for the show was that KBC has already seen two legends and doesn’t want to generate pointless comparisons.”

Speaking on this, Siddharth Basu, (Producer of Licensed Company, Synergy) said, “It’s too early to talk about the next season for KBC.”

Well, it would be a treat for Aamir’s fans to see him hosting KBC and enjoy his new ‘takiyakalam’ after ‘Lock Kiya Jaye’ and ‘Freeze kiya jaye’, what say?

Vineett longs to move on...

Vineett Kumar swears he will forever remain thankful to Star Plusand Endemol for having the faith in him and handing over the role of Daljit in Sabki Laadli Bebo. However, the actor now yearns for newer horizons.

He tells us, "I now want to take up a bigger dare, say like character roles in Bollywood or a lead in television show. Many people didn't think I'd fit the bill for Daljit but I proved them wrong and have made the people who had faith in me proud. Now I want to grow more and beyond the mould of Daljit."

When asked if he is willing to do provocative scenes for a Bollywood role in this highly competitive era he replied, "I know what you mean. But I'll do it only if the script and the character demands it. Until and unless I haven't gone through the script I can't really say much. If there's a genuine need for it, then I don't mind doing it. But to be honest my ardent wish is to do some romantic role like Raj in DDLJ."

Vineett is a die-hard fan of Amitabh Bachchan. He gushes, "There's not a single film of Bachchanji that I haven't watched. Sharaabi and Agnipath are my all time favorites. Although I feel with Paa he crossed several more leagues as an actor. How, as an actor one should go to the extremes of reinvention is exhibited by Amitji in a remarkable way!"

The actor feels sad about missing an opportunity to meet his idol. He says, "Amitji was supposed to shoot at a studio next to ours but sadly my off was also on that day only. It's a very unfortunate incident that I missed seeing him." He adds as an afterthought, "But I won't give up the wish to meet him personally someday"

Vineett has a long list of directors that he dreams of working with. "Vishal Bhardwaj, Anurag Kashyap, Rakesh Roshan, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and Raj Kumar Hirani are fabulous directors. I would consider it an honour if I'm given an opportunity to work with them," he signs off.

Is Zara Nachke.. to be blamed for Aamir-Sanjeeda split?

Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh were once considered as a pair made in heaven. However, nothing is constant in heaven too. Reportedly, this relationship is on its last legs. What’s the bone of contention here?

Aamir and Sanjeeda have not been on cordial terms for a while and the shell finally cracked with the issue over their participation in the second season of Zara Nachke Dikha.

This show is a dance competition between boys and girls and Aamir, reportedly, wasn’t in favour of competing with Sanjeeda. Since this season will have eliminations, Aamir didn’t want to compete with Sanjeeda and wasn’t in favour of her participating. However, Sanjeeda, who is a much accomplished dancer than Aamir, refused to toe the line. This supposedly let to a tiff between the two.

Well, this isn’t the first instance where dance competition has resulted in the split between a couple. Gaurav Chopra had split with his long time girl friend Narayani Shastri after Nach Baliye and had started seeing the sexy Mouni Roy. Karan Patel and Amita Chandekar stunned all when they revealed that they were never a couple and yet took part in Nach Baliye 3.

Though, he won Nach baliye but it was Sanjeeda who walked away with all the accolades. Critics and even Nach baliye judges maintained that Sanjeeda was the instrumental factor in their win. Aamir often shies away from questions about his relationship with Sanjeeda. One reckons that it was one man who was calling the shots in this relationship and our lady has now decided to be independent.

'I am back on the sets with the same spirit' - Ragini Khanna

Ragini Khanna popularly known as Bharti from Bhaskar Bharti, who is now essaying the role of Suhana in Star Plus' Sasural Genda Phool, shares her journey from then to now, keeping intact her all time humor.

Firstly, you were quite upset with Bhaskar Bharti going off-air, so has your new serial added up to some equivalent excitement?
There was a lot of viewer ship attached to Bhaskar Bharti, and most importantly it gave me recognition in the industry as a talented actress. So when they decided to end the show, it just put me in a state of depression for quite a long time. I had even thought of giving up my career as an actress, but as said 'Time is the best healer'. If I would have quit my career at that point, then today I would have failed as a person too. So, now I'm back on the sets with the same spirit.

What according to you is the meaning of Sasural Genda Phool?
In scientific terms, Genda Phool is a very complicated flower; it has many small petals intertwined in each other. So, this is exactly how the characters in the serial are related to one another. The characters are all very different from each other, yet bonded together with a sweet family affection.

Could you elaborate on Suhana's character in the serial?
Suhana is a very dominant 21st century girl who believes in living life on her own terms. As she is being nurtured by a single father, she could also be tagged as a pampered kid. But she's filled with lot of joy and enthusiasm.

What similarity do you find in the two roles of Suhana and Bharti?
Both the roles are identically opposite to each other. In Bhaskar Bharti, the role of Bharti was just presented feminine but the complete characterization was male oriented. I had to think, feel and present it as a male chauvinist, whereas in Sasural Genda Phool the role of Suhana is completely feminine, yet very dominant and stands out in her own way. In a way if we have to compare the two, then Suhana is a kind of girl with whom Bhaskar could have easily played off (laughs).

Which amongst the two roles as in Bharti or Suhana you find has been more challenging?
Undoubtedly Bharati's role was much more challenging than that of Suhana. But at the time of depiction the character of Suhana too doesn't come very easily to me, because she is a girl who has the capability of shouting at the top of her voice in anger, and at the very next minute she's being heard laughing her heart out. So, a challenge factor is attached to both the characters.

What kind of marriage would Ragini Khanna prefer - Love or Arranged?
Surely a Love marriage, but cordially arranged by my family (laughs).

What is Ragini Khanna's dream role like?
I would really like to play a role similar to Meena Kumari's in the movie 'Pakeeza', soft yet, vibrant and mesmerizing on the whole.

The actors portraying vamps and villains in TV have gained lot of fame. So how do you see this show which has all positive characters?
The uniqueness of the show is the main strength I feel. And its brilliant cast, super brilliant production house and a wonderful director is just like a topping on the cake. So from my side all's very positive.

How is it to work with your co-actor Jay Soni?
He's an amazing co-actor to work with. In one word I would say he's a brilliant actor.

What can viewers look forward to when Suhana gets married to Ishaan?
(Laughs) Lot of fun, frolic and of course unexpected twists.

We have also heard that you were working on a movie named "Mare Mere Dushman" with Ninaad Kamath, so could you put some light on it?
Yes, that was a movie I had signed before Bhaskar Bharti. And I shot just a single sequence for it. But due to some problematic reasons the movie died at its nascent stage itself.

Are any other movies lined up for the coming year?
Yes, my efforts to be screened on 70mm full screen are in full swing. But I would like to keep that project under disguise for some more time (giggles).

What would your message be for the anxious viewers who are waiting to see more of you on T.V?
I would say that I'm equally disheartened by Bhaskar Bharati's exit from the prime slots, but I would request them to maintain the trust on me. As an actor, variation is a must and I'm trying to deliver the best. Hope that my comeback with this show is warmly welcomed.

Soon after the launch of Hats Off's Behenein, Star Plus will be launching Sasural Genda Phool, an adaptation of the very popular Bengali soap Ogo Bondhu Sundori. The show will be produced by Ravi Ojha, maker of the Bengali soap on Star Jalsa.

The show which will deal with the 'Slice of life' theme and will be a pure family drama where hatred, jealousy etc have no room. We already know that Sudhir Pandey will play the patriarch of the family. Noted actors Supriya Pilgaonkar and Shruti Ulfat play the second generation bahus, while Ragini Khanna and Pooja Kanwal play their daughters-in law. As reported earlier, Jay Soni will play the guy opposite Ragini. A newcomer Shyam will be seen opposite Pooja Kanwal.

According to our source, "Anita Kanwal, mother of Pooja Kanwal will play the Dadi of the house, and wife of Sudhir Pandey. Noted actor Jiten Lalwani who was last seen in Zee TV's Shree will play Bhairavi's husband. When contacted, Sooraj Thapar confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I play the son of Sudhir Pandey. We both are getting back to Star Plus after a good long 10 years, after Hum Saat Aath Hain. This show has no negativity to show, and that is the USP of the show".

Jiten Lalwani confirmed that he is a part of the show, but preferred to talk later as he was busy.

Pooja Kanwal confirmed that her mother will also be part of the show. "My mom will be essaying the role of Dadi, and will be opposite Sudhir Pandeyji".

We tried contacting Bhairavi Raichura, but she was busy in her shoot.

The promos of the show have been shot, and will be on air very soon. The show will be launched in a prime time slot either in the last week of February or in the first week of March.

At first I'll be shocked but then just for my own good I'll take it in a positive way and look forward to living life in a brand new way (laughs).

Behnein on Star Plus at 8.30pm 'Tere Mere Sapne moved to noon.

The promo of Hats Off Production's new show on Star Plus has been on air for few week now. The channel is has now decided to launch the show on February 8th at the 8.30pm slot.
Star Plus plans to bring in fresh programming line up at its prime time, and launch of Behnein is just the beginning.

With Behnein taking the 8.30pm slot, Sphere Origins' Tere Mere Sapne is getting moved. With Tuj Sang Preet Lagai Sajana ending on 5th February Tere Mere Sapne is likely to take 1pm slot from February 8."

When contacted Sanjay Wadhwa , producer of Tere Mere Sapne said, "Tere Mere Sapne will mostly be shifted to the afternoon slot of 1. However, a final decision on this will be taken on Monday."

Recently Tere Mere Sapne had got into yet another tangle with the main lead Saurabh Pandey being axed from the show and replaced by Yash Pandit.

Behnein is a tale of four sisters, the role of which are being played by Ada ,Ojashree Oberoi, Siju Kataria and Alisha. Sudeep Sahir, Mukul Chablani, Ajay Chaudhary, Dolly Minas, Shruti Ulfat, Darshan Jariwala also play pivotal roles in the show.

Let's see whether Behnein can help the channel in increasing its GRP.

Cupid strikes Abigale and Vishal Singh

Abigail Jain and Vishal Singh of Kasam Se fame seems to be next happening couple from television.

Abigale and Vishal Singh struck a chord form the very first day of shoot when they were paired together in Tuj Sang Preet Lagai Sajana.

According to our source, "Abigail and Vishal have been seeing together at public parties for quite a long time now they have been seeing each other for the past two years, but are not coming clear with their relationship in public as they aim to focus on their career."

When we called Abigail she denied the news and said "Yes, we are just good friends and help each other when in need."

Vishal Singh on the other hand refuse to comment.
