Sia of "Na Aana Is Des Ladoo"..

Delhi girl Natasha Sharma did a few cameo roles before she got her big break as the main protagonist on Na Aana Iss Desh: Laddo. And though her show has been airing for two months and is extremely popular with audiences, not many know a lot about the lead actress. We caught up with Natasha to find out more about her background and her thoughts on the Laddo.

How did you bag this role?

I went for the auditions of the show and was selected. I liked the concept of the show; it is a very substantial and mature role. Nowadays, there are many intelligent shows on television. I am happy that the first project I am doing is so nice. It is a very good platform for me.

Tell us something about your background

I am from Delhi; I spent 10 years there and completed my education from Miranda House University. I graduated in journalism and did my post graduation in Mass Communication. I came to Mumbai for a family function last year with my father and my cousin told me that I should try modeling.

Are you trained in acting?

I was working with the theatre group Anukriti. My cousin told me about Phir Koi Hai’s audition so I went there and did a few episodes with them last year. I went back to Delhi and then Contiloe production house called me after 15 days so I came back. Then I did a cameo on Jahan Pe Basera Ho for which I shot for two months. But I had a very bad experience with Shreya Creation production house as even after the show went off air, they did not pay me.

Have you adjusted to life in Mumbai?

I have two sisters and my father always treated me like a son. He said that whatever profession I was in, I would always do my work with dignity. I am staying here in Mumbai alone at Yaari Road (Andheri). My parents keep visiting. I have been living in a 2BHK flat for the past 7 months. My family is very happy for me and they did not object to it. The only problem is that I am not used to the smell of fish. Even though I am non-vegetarian, I do not eat fish. However, when you want something, you have to sacrifice a few things. They were a little apprehensive when I took up the show, as I am very introverted, but now they say that I am doing well.

Female infanticide is a very serious issue. Do you think that your show will help shed light on it?

I have heard a lot about this issue. I had a maid who had five daughters and she was expecting the sixth so she aborted the pregnancy. She had done this twice or thrice before too. We tried to convince her but these reasons do not reach the masses easily. I have read up about it and know that it does exist in areas around Haryana and in other parts too. It is good that Balika Vadhu became popular and now people have started making shows on serious subjects, especially related to the girl child and women. There are so many issues such as this that should be highlighted.

Are you happy with your character?

We are all new on the show but I am very comfortable with my look and everything. I have to shoot for the show the entire day so I prefer to wear clothes that I am comfortable in. I have to use little make up which is good. I have been getting good responses. Whenever I go out, people come to me and ask me if I am Sia. It feels nice. I want to focus on my character right now and perform well.
